Model European Union Zagreb (MEUZ) is a simulation of the decision-making process on the EU level organized by HERMES (Croatian Educational and Development Network for the Evolution of Communication).

MEUZ 2014 will be the second MEU in Zagreb organized by the HERMES. Partners on the project are the Croatian Student Association (HSA), from the Faculty of Economics and Business Zagreb, non-governmental organization Bringing Europeans Together Association (BETA), the Zagreb Debating Union and A.D.E.L.
The participants of MEUZ are given an opportunity to understand the workings of EU institutions in practice, to understand policy challenges and pressing current issues which the EU is faced with, as well as the underlying principles and values of the EU. The participants are given a chance to develop their skills in EU law as well as debating and negotiations.

Through simulating of the decision-making process, the participants learn first-hand (“learning by playing”) by defending certain positions and voting on real-life legislative proposals. This method transforms the participants from passive recipients of classroom knowledge into active participants in the educational processes. Additionally, the project produces a multiplier effect on a wider societal scale with participants increasing their involvement in the democratic processes on the European level.
